2013 Summer Mentor Program
Open for Registration: Summer Mentorship Program

Join the DC Thetas in supporting some incredible undergraduates by signing up to be a mentor or facilitator! Alumnae interested in participating in the program should fill out this form by Friday, May 5th.

Every summer, the Washington DC/Suburban MD Alumnae Chapter connects Kappa Alpha Theta alumni with current Theta undergarduates who intern in Washington, DC and the surrounding areas. The program includes individual mentoring, regular panels with alumni speaking on wide-ranging careers, networking opportunities, and community service events. In addition to providing support to current Theta students, the network is also a great opportunity to meet other Theta alumni in the area. Events are open to all local alumnae, recent graduates, and collegians. Note that the 2018 KAT Summer Mentorship program runs from Friday, June 1 to Friday, August 10. Event dates will be announced in the May e-newsletter.

Alumni can participate in the program in one or more of several ways:

Alumni Mentors
  • Attend the opening reception for mentors and mentees in order to meet your mentee and other students in person and set the tone for a great summer.
  • Meet face to face with your student mentee two to three times during the summer.
  • Be available for questions and to provide guidance. Don’t worry; you are not expected to be an expert! But your experience will be a wonderful resource to your mentee this summer.
*Note: It is not your responsibility to help your mentee find an internship or housing. After the summer ends, we will not require any follow-up but of course we hope that you create lasting relationships. We hope everyone is as excited for this summer as we are!

Alumni Facilitators (*New this year!*)
  • Host a small group of women for one to three sessions, scheduled based on your availability and convenience (i.e. hosting a group of women to go to a museum, providing a tour of an interesting office or the Capitol, etc.).
Other ways to get involved
  • Speak about your professional or academic experiences and share your expertise on a panel with fellow alumni.
  • Assist with or support events and panels (i.e. set-up, sharing an office space or location for an event, etc.)
If you have questions about the Mentorship Program or would like to suggest networking or professional development events, please reach out to Sarah Tralins, Mentorship and Networking Chair, at mentoring.dcthetas@gmail.com.
